The Potomac Region Board of Directors is pleased to announce the results of the recent election of new Board Members, who will be inducted at the Annual Meeting on March 12. They are:
Secretary/Treasurer: Dr. Trung Tran, is an Assistant Professor of Geography and coordinator of the BA in Geospatial Science program and the USGIF-accredited GEOINT certificate program in the Department of Intelligence Studies, Geospatial Science, Political Science, and History at Fayetteville State University. He received his PhD in Geography from the University of Oklahoma. His teaching and research interests include applications of geospatial technologies including remote sensing, drone, GIS, and GPS to investigate patterns and processes of land cover/use changes as well as their relationship with environmental changes. He is currently certified to fly drone systems in North Carolina.
Region Officers Council Representative: Mr. Evan Brown is a career geospatial professional with 24 years of experience in local, state, and federal government; his career has included work in GIS, photogrammetry, remote sensing, and surveying. Evan is an alumnus of the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in geography and master’s degree in geomatics. Evan’s geospatial credentials include ASPRS Certified Photogrammetrist and Certified Mapping Scientist, GIS/LIS. Evan has held leadership positions in both the Florida and Potomac Regions, including the ROC representative. Evan’s approach to the ROC is to communicate regularly, facilitate cooperation, and enable capability sharing for the betterment of the Society and the Region. Evan’s goal for the next two years as ROC Representative is to increase region outreach to members through headquarters capabilities, including event assistance and video conferencing.
Region Director: Ms. Hope Morgan has been working in the remote sensing field for 23 years. She is currently the Secretary/Treasurer for the North Carolina ASPRS Chapter (NCASPRS) and works with the Potomac Region as a Region Director. As a Professional Land Surveyor in NC (NCPLS) Hope is currently the Geospatial Technical Excellence Lead for Compass with AECOM. Her past experience includes management of statewide Lidar collection for North Carolina, GIS lead for NC Emergency Management, GIS applications management for floodplain mapping.
Filling of vacant Board position:
Region Director : Ms. Michelle Bester entered the Geomatics field roughly 10 years ago. She is currently completing her PhD in Geography at WVU with interests in fire ecology, remote sensing, and 3D modeling. She is also currently the president for WVU Remote Sensing ASPRS Student Chapter. Prior to coming to the US, she worked for the Geospatial department at a power utility company doing vegetation management, and while studying Geoinformatics she consulted for an environmental consulting company. She was also the secretary of the Geo-information association for her region.
