Title: Semi-Global Matching
Presenter: Dr. John Marshall, Integrity Applications Incorporated of Chantilly, VA
Time: September 25, 2013, 4:30-6:00pm CST (5:30-6:30 EST).
Description: Semi-Global Matching (SGM) is a stereo matching method that is based on pixel-wise matching, supported by a global smoothness function that is optimized along multiple paths and creates dense point clouds. SGM offers a very good trade off between runtime and accuracy, especially at object borders and fine structures. It is also robust against radiometric differences and not sensitive to the choice of parameters. Therefore, it is well suited for solving practical problems. The applications reach from remote sensing, like deriving digital surface models from aerial and satellite images, to robotics and driver assistance systems. This talk will described the SGM algorithm and explore its application.
Please RSVP by September 23, 5pm CST to email@example.com for attendance / connection details.
The presentation will be made from Virginia via the web with a virtual attendance connection option. St. Louis region will also provide a local site for those who wish to physically attend at:

Dr. Henry (Hank) J. Theiss is the chief scientist in photogrammetry at Integrity Applications Incorporated (IAI) in Chantilly, VA. He is responsible for a large team of scientists who support predominantly NGA, as well as other DoD/IC organizations, by performing photogrammetric and error propagation analyses related to EO/IR/SAR/LIDAR sensor modeling from airborne and spaceborne platforms, image formation, close range applications, registration, and tool validation. Prior to joining IAI in 2001, Hank earned his MS and PhD degrees in Photogrammetry and Geomatics at Purdue University, where he also taught graduate data adjustment courses and conducted research on photogrammetric modeling of video image sequences as a Visiting Assistant Professor.
